After working in the healthcare industry for 25 years, I accepted a job offer from a nutraceutical company to work in their R & D division that specialized in product development and alternative medicine. This transition turned out to be an exciting one both professionally and on a personal level. I soon became a knowledge seeker, learning all I could to perform well on my job while making intentional lifestyle choices. My goals included building my immune system, improving sleep quality, and dietary choices.

I understood the role that exercise played in achieving my goals and continued to participate in jogging, cycling and weight training. I adopted a vegetarian lifestyle which I continue to practise to this day.

As my wellness knowledge base grew, so did my determination to discover ways to calm my mind, reduce anxiety and become fully present. I came across an interesting website about Transcendental Meditation.  A couple of my close friends practise ‘TM’ and their describe the experience as transforming. Ways to reach a meditative state include repetitive mantras, focus on breath or the ‘inner eye’.

I meditated for 20 minutes twice a day and kept a journal to record my thoughts and track my progress of this ancient ritual. After recording over 500 sessions, I discovered the key role it played in my overall health and well-being. Although I am a little less structured now, I continue to rely on meditation to handle stress and improve sleep duration and quality.

In conclusion, by staying in the “present,” it teaches us to be mindful which offers many rewards in life. I try to focus on the present moment rather than thoughts of the future or past that no longer serve me. Another big  takeaway is the blissful peace and tranquility meditation offers.   I remain grateful to the people and the gifts God has given me.  Namaste
